Tonight's Primus Poster from San Francisco by Chuck Sperry

No comments:

Tonight’s Perfectly Appropriate “Frankenstein’s Masquerade New Years Ball” Poster was drawn, printed, signed, numbered & hand delivered by local San Francisco Rock Poster Artist, Chuck Sperry.

Over the past 20+ years in SF, every Primus or Claypool related New years performance has a theme. This year’s theme is “Frankenstein’s Masquerade New Years Ball.” The idea was for each of them to do an artist’s homage to Frankenstein. Each poster would be inspired by a different historic artist – and by working with the same color palette and printing the posters at the same time, they would ensure a consistent overall theme.

The Frankenstein/Picasso themed poster is 5 colors of rich oil based ink, with a metallic undercoat – and is the match for last night’s sold out poster by Zoltron (the rad artist behind the silkscreen sticker printing company, Sticker Robot). Each night’s respective poster would be inspired by a different historic artist… Zoltron chose Warhol and Chuck chose Picasso. Both were cross pollinated with Frankenstein – and this is the result.

Zoltron and Chuck have worked together many times over the years, but usually he's inviting Zoltron to do posters for the coveted SF, Goldenvoice Poster Series – which Chuck has curated and produced a poster series in the rich history of San Francisco’s 1960s rock poster tradition for the Avalon Ballroom, where he designs or invite artists to design and print unique posters for events at the Regency Ballroom and the Warfield Theatre.

It just so happens that the Primus Poster Series, currently landing on poster #83, and The Goldvoice Series, currently at poster # 171, are literally merging on New Years at these two Warfield Primus shows.

125 tubed copies will be available at the merch booth tonight. And 125 will sell out. Be there early to make sure to snag one!

And remember to dress up for tonight’s on stage Costume Contest!

Tonight's Primus Poster from San Francisco by Zoltron and Chuck Sperry

No comments:

Details from Zoltron on the poster for tonight's Primus show:

I reached out to the prolific and heavyweight San Francisco Rock Poster Artist, Chuck Sperry about collaborating on a poster for the end of the year Primus shows at the Warfield on Dec 30th and 31st.
Chuck and I have worked together many times over the years, but usually he's the one inviting me to do posters for his coveted SF, Goldenvoice Poster Series - which has been created and curated in the rich history of San Francisco's 1960s rock poster tradition for the Avalon Ballroom, where Chuck and other artists design and print unique posters for events at the Regency Ballroom and the Warfield Theatre.

It just so happens that the Primus Poster Series, currently landing on poster #83, and The Goldvoice Series, currently at poster # 171, are literally merging on New Years at the two Warfield Primus shows.

Over the past 20+ years in SF, every Primus or Claypool related New years performance has a theme. This year's theme is "Frankenstein's Masquerade Ball." The idea was for each of us to do an artist's homage to Frankenstein. Each poster would be inspired by a different historic artist - and by working with the same color palette and printing the posters at the same time, we would ensure a consistent overall theme.

So without further talk... Here's my Warhol "Inspired" Bride of Frankenstein...
(at least it started out with warhol in mind...)

The poster was hand printed by Chuck Sperry at Hangar 18 in Oakland. 5 colors with a metallic undercoat. Zoltron plans tentative poster release date of Friday jan 7 at a random time at http://zzz.zoltron.com/

Tonight's Primus Poster from San Diego by Craig 'Tapecat' McCudden

4 comments:

Tonight's insanely awesome silkscreen poster for the San Diego show was made by the talented Mr Craig 'Tapecat' McCudden. The entire illustration was made on scratchboard with a knife... Amazing. Scratchboard is the most unforgiving medium, because if you make a mistake there is no fixing it. On sale info about the artist edition coming soon.

If you have ever been out in the woods and seen how the bugs go through an old piece of wood you will recognize that is how Craig formed the letters and date. As if the bugs went through the wood and spelled everything out.

100 pre tubed copies will be available at the merch booth. Come and grab one before they sell out! Check for tickets here: http://primusville.com/tour-dates.html

Openings: Apocalypto - The End of an Age Gallery Show at 1xRUN

No comments:

Last night at 323East in Royal Oak Michigan they hosted their last show at their current location with the theme Apocalypto - The End of an Age. They will be moving into a new larger building in the spring. 2012 had its share of tumultuous events even without this ominous message from the past, so using it as a theme for an art show is both an acknowledgment of a trending news item and an opportunity for talented people to reflect on the message of global finality – a message that’s as old as Noah and as recent as yesterday’s headlines.

They had art from a long list of local and national artists and place was packed all night.

Address: 323 E. Fourth St. Royal Oak, MI 48067

Open: Hours: Mon - Sat 12pm - 7pm

James Flames Mystery Tubes Day 12 of the 12 Days of Christmas Giveaways

119 comments:

Well today is the last day of the 12 Days of Christmas giveaways on the blog and it ends in FLAMES, James Flames that is. Hopefully everyone is still reading this and we find out some people dont know as much as they think. The funny part about that Mayan calender doomsday shit is the calender was written years before Caesar added the extra days for the leap year, so if it was true the world would have ended years ago.

Ok now on with the giveaway, James Flames was kind enough to give 2 of you 2 mystery tubes each one with 5 posters in it including one sold out poster. The pictures above do not necessarily represent the posters you will receive they are there to show off the excellent work of James

Now go to the top of the post above the picture and click on comments or scroll down (depends on how you see this post) to leave a comment about what you want for Christmas to have a chance at winning the poster. Don't worry if your comment does not appear immediately I have to approve them before they are published. I will use the random number generator to pick a winner. Entries are limited to ONE PER PERSON PER HOUSEHOLD. Please leave your name with the comment, comments without names will not be accepted. Entries will be accepted until MIDNIGHT EST TONIGHT DECEMBER 21, with the winner announced soon after.

Thank you again to James Flames for providing the 2 tubes of goodies for you my loyal readers. Hope everyone enjoyed the 12 days of giveaways from the one blog that does appreciate everyone that takes the time to stop by everyday.

Thank you also to all the artists and others that made it happen by contributing something for the giveaway !!!

Pangea Seed Presents The “Year of Living Dangerously” Series of Prints

No comments:

At PangeaSeed they believe art and activism can spark positive change within individuals and their communities. No matter how large or small the effort, we are all morally responsible to take action and make better decisions for future generations and the natural world.

The “Year of Living Dangerously” is PangeaSeed’s newest twist to the typical print suite. In collaboration with some of today’s most talented and sought-after global artists such as Ken Taylor, Dave Kinsey, Tatiana Suarez, Brad Klausen, Kozyndan, Emek, Rhys Cooper, Frank Kozik, Caia Koopman, Tim Doyle, Greg Craola Simkins, and Jeff Soto, they have created a simple yet beautiful concept: 12 fine art prints focusing on 12 endangered ocean animals. A new print featuring a specific marine species threatened with extinction will be released each month over the course of 2013.

Proceeds raised through the sales of the print suite will help fund PangeaSeed’s 2014 Year of Living Dangerously art tour of Asia. Because Asia is ground zero for the trade and consumption of many endangered species, the 2014 Asian event will reach six major Asian cities extending our core message to critical audiences. The tour with over 50 participating artists and filmmakers aims to educate communities about these endangered species and actions we can take to save these animals from extinction.

With coral reefs, rain forests and global fish stocks estimated to be in full collapse by mid-century, the threat of extinction greatly affects us all. Without healthy oceans a healthy life on Earth becomes a significant challenge and it’s going to take a global movement of awareness, education and action to bring about the sea change necessary to encourage citizens and governments to protect and sustain what cannot protect itself.

For collectors who already know they want the entire suite of 12 prints, they are offering 35 complete, matched numbered sets for sale. Not only will you get all 12 of these amazing prints, they are also including a special print that will only be available to purchasers of this set and that print will be limited to an edition of 40.
All set purchases will be shipped out on a quarterly basis, as the prints get released. - To learn more, please visit PangeaSeed.org

All Is Calm Print by Jeremy Berkley On Sale

No comments:

Jeremy Berkley has a new holiday themed print up in his store inspired by the Christmas truce of 1914. If your not familiar with the story here's a brief overview. Starting on Christmas Eve during WWI, many German and British troops sang Christmas carols to each other across the lines. At dawn both sides came out of their trenches for a short-lived ceasefire. Drinks and small gifts were exchanged. For a brief moment not even war could stop the Christmas spirit.

You can read more of the story here:

Print Details:
12 x 12in, 5 color screen print on pearlescent ONYX mica-coated paper. There are two editions both are $25 each:

Max Neutra Old Friends Print On Sale Today

No comments:

"When I was commissioned to create an image to help promote the Assassin's Creed 3 video game, I was excited put my own twist on the franchise. After looking at what other people were doing, I noticed that a lot of the other art was centered on the main character, which made sense because he is the recognizable icon from that game. I found myself wanting to do something different. I wanted to create an image that could stand on it's own, without reaching for people to recognize it's relation to the game. In the end I feel I created an image that reflects an imaginary alliance during the American Revolution, which I think is an interesting thing on it's own, and oh by the way those are Assassin's tomahawks." - Max Neutra

323East Sets Date for Final Show, Announces New Global Headquarters in Detroit’s Eastern Market

No comments:

After five years and 50+ art exhibitions on Fourth Street in downtown Royal Oak, progressive art gallery 323East will be closing its doors. In its place, 323East’s offshoot 1xRUN — an international limited edition online print house and art gallery — is expanding their global operations with the purchase of a refurbished three-story, 10,000-square-foot building in Detroit.

The new space — located at 1410 Gratiot in historic Eastern Market — will house a gallery, artists workshop with screen printing capabilities, artist residencies, a digital printing facility and a new office space for the expanding international art company. 1xRUN’s new facilities are slated to open in late March/early April. Detroit-based architect Tadd Heidgerken, whose portfolio includes Slow’s To Go, Astro Coffee & Red Bull House of Art, is handling the design and build out.

”This is a natural progression for us,” explains co-founder Jesse Cory. “After years of living and breathing the city, we’re excited to finally bring our business downtown. We have a huge amount of respect for the history of Detroit’s art scene and look forward to participating in the next chapter.”

To celebrate the end of 323East & the end of the Mayan Calendar, the renowned Royal Oak gallery will host its final show — the aptly titled “Apocalypto: An End Of An Era” — on Friday, December 21 from 6-11pm. Visit 323East.com for details & a list of participating artists.

Black Keys, Andrew Bird and more new posters from Landland

No comments:

Details from Landland on the 5 new posters they released:

Andrew Bird • December 17th, 2012 at the State Theatre in Minneapolis, Minn.
Seven screens on 100# French cover stock • Illustration/Design by Jessica Seamans • Signed & Numbered Edition of 120 • 18" x 24" • $40 + regular shipping

Child Bite • West Coast Tour 2012
Four screens on 100# French cover stock • Illustration/Design by Jessica Seamans & Dan Black • Signed & Numbered Edition of 135 • 24" x 18" • $20 + regular shipping
We've been huge fans of Shawn Knight's amazing poster work and his Child Bite band for a while now, so being asked to make posters for his tour last Fall was an awesome honor. We wanted to make something a little less comfortable than the usual Landland fare; the original idea was to place their tour van in a horrible road accident, but in the end this sorta ended up looking more like a junkyard.

"Let the End Times Roll" • An art print made for the "End of the World" exhibition at Galerie F in Chicago, Ill.
Four screens on 100# French cover stock • Illustration/Design by Dan Black • Signed & Numbered Edition of 135 • 24" x 18" • $40 + regular shipping
Just in time for the next big doomsday event, here's an art print showcasing weird snapshots of desperation and fragmented communication at the end of times. The title and McDonalds sheet sign respectfully borrowed from Tim Kinsella; other text borrowed from an interpretation of the Book of Revelation and found materials.

The Black Keys • December 8th at SECC in Glasgow of the United Kingdom
Four screens on 100# French cover stock • Illustration/Design by Dan Black • Signed & Numbered Edition of 170 • 24" x 16" • $45 + regular shipping
Top Serious Note: Limit ONE per household. While we can't make Big Cartel limit that and you'll technically be able to order all of them if you want, please don't do that...orders for more than one will just get refunded in full.
